October 28th, 2003 Seminar Status and Presentation Download

This seminar was a huge success with over 150 attendees. We appreciated and gave thanks to ISO CIO, Roy Nicolosi, who sponsored for the meeting site, and Infinity Systems Software Inc. who sponsored for breakfast and lunch. The meeting status is as follows,

8:00 am - 8:50 am       Registration and Breakfast

8:50 am - 9:00 am       Introduction

Sunny Lee opened the meeting, introduced the NY/NJ WebSphere Family User Group Committee, and thanked ISO for providing the facilities and Infinity for their contributions to making this meeting possible.

9:00 am - 10:00 am      Using Certificates and SSL with WebSphere MQ Version 5.3

The presentation covered general concepts of Certificates and SSL.  Practical implementation and application of Certificates and SSL under WebSphere MQ 5.3 was covered in detail. The step-by-step process of enabling this new feature across multiple platforms operating under WebSphere MQ was explained and the trials, tribulations and challenges of using this new capability were discussed.  This was a very timely session with many questions on practical implementation and management answered in detail.

Speakers: Vincent Terrone, Technologist, Infinity Systems  Software, Inc.

Joseph Cruz, Consulting Manager, Infinity Systems  Software, Inc.

10:00 am - 10:15 am   Appreciation and Award Presentation

Roy Nicolosi was presented a Plaque as recognition of the contributions the ISO has made to the WebSphere Family User Group by supporting the organization and making facilities available on a continuing basis to make the fall meeting a success.

10:30 am - 11:30 am     Web Services with MQ and Developing plug-in nodes

Two topics were covered in this session. 1.)  Many of the implications of using Web Services with WebSphere MQ Family were discussed.  Architecture for using Web Services in a messaging  environment was presented, with consideration to SOAP/HTTP, SOAP/MQ, XML  Validation, transformation and Security. 2.)  Developing custom plug-in nodes for WBI Message Broker using a TIBCO-MQ bridge as an example.  Development, deployment, and hints and tips were covered in this fast paced presentation.

Speaker: Kadeer Beg, Managing Director, EAI Corp

11:30 am - 11:45 am     A Live Demonstration of WebSphere MQ  Integration Broker

This demonstration reviewed the key components of a Legacy-XML transformation message flow, the use of some of the application development/debug tools, and gave hints, tips, and gotcha's for developers.

Speaker: Dean Keister, Director of Business Integration,  Centerprise Services

12:30 pm - 1:15 pm       Practical Business Integration Scenarios

This presentation showed how WebSphere Family products (WebSphere MQ Integrator, Workflow) have been used to solve a variety of business problems from Legacy to XML transformation, failure detection-correction-notification, workflow/integrator cooperation for file attendance management, and some tricks used to circumvent product limitations.

Speaker: Dean Keister, Director of Business Integration,  Centerprise Services

1:15 pm - 2:15 pm WebSphere Business Integration Architecture

The capabilities within the IBM Business Integration portfolio were presented in an understandable ‘what problem are we solving’ technique that made it clear why the various functions were necessary for a business integration architecture, relating these capabilities to WebSphere MQ Family  products. Functions complementary to the WebSphere MQ Family capabilities such as process modeling, and monitoring, common object business model, cross-referencing, web services, etc. were reviewed.  Showing how all the capabilities work together to provide a full end-to-end business Integration solution was valuable.

Speaker: Robert Liburdi, World Wide WebSphere Architect,  IBM Software Group

2:30 pm - 3:30 pm Using XML as a Format of MQ Messages

Software companies are rushing to use XML as the message format for their middleware. This is true whether you are Microsoft using it as the format for .NET or SAP as the core of eXchange Integration (XI). However, XML was not invented as a message format but as a document mark up meta language.  Pros and Cons of XML usage were reviewed and XML was compared to some alternatives, such as LU6.2 mapped conversations, name/value pairs, MIME and ASN-1/BER.

Speaker: John Schlesinger, Director of Solutions, Information Builders
