November 19th, 2010 Seminar Minutes and Presentation Download

We have had over 180 attendees on November 19th meeting. The meeting site was sponsored by ISO. The meals sponsor was IBM WebSphere ILOG. IBM provided 100 USB's give away gifts with ILOG demos and overview. 

-        Introduction
Shobha Railkar, MQUG president, brought the meeting to order and thanked everyone for coming. The CIO of ISO, Mr. Perry Rotella, who was hosting the event said a few and told a story of them buying software just before IBM purchases the company, his examples were ILog and Cognos. He said he called IBM Senior Exec up and asked about the situation, where the IBM Exec said, “that’s the difference between us, you buy the software and I buy the company”. This was well received by the audience. Peter then introduced Venkat Gaddam and Shankar Kulkarni from Verizon Wireless.

This session gave the audience the experiences of adopting an ESB by Verizon Wireless: Verizon Wireless went over an overview, brief description of the handset services drive in wireless industry, handset support and what means to VzW IT, how and why IBM WMB as an ESB plays a significant role in handset services, how did they start the initiative of ESB adoption, ESB architectural discussion, experiences/challenges encountered during the "rubber meeting the road" period, close interaction with IBM Hursley lab to report challenges and get help in terms of new requirements and fixes, overview of web services and SOA plan with WMB, WSRR, and DataPower for self serve initiatives.  

-        Title: Introduction to IBM WebSphere BRMS
Presenter:   Ajay Jasti, WebSphere ILOG Technical Specialist, IBM

This session gave an overview of IBM’s BRMS solutions. ILOG JRules is a complete lifecycle Business Rules Management System that enables organizations to manage rules in a central repository and dynamically deploy to enterprise applications. Ajay presented an overview of the components of the newest release of JRules (7.1), discussed integration, architecture and performance and demonstrated a complete lifecycle use case.

-        Title: Using WebSphere ILOG JRules together with WebSphere Message Broker
Presenter: Jenny Chow, Senior Certified Executive WebSphere IT Specialist, IBM
Jenny is the co-author of "Connecting Your Business using WebSphere Message Broker v7 as an ESB" Redbook.  She wrote the chapter of using ILOG and Message Broker together. This session explained the integration scenarios and the benefits using ILOG with Message Broker.

-        Title:   What's New in WebSphere MQ, FTE and Message Broker!   
Presenter:   Anthony O’Dowd, IBM UK Hursley Lab, WebSphere Message Broker Architect and Strategy

This session covered all the most recent updates to WebSphere MQ, FTE and Message Broker. The new features in MQ including MQTT support for connecting devices directly into the MQ backbone, and Advanced Message Security which provides end to end application level security for MQ. Anthony also cover the most recent updates to MQ FTE in its latest release as well as covering all the new features in Message Broker, including the newly announced Hypervisor Edition for Cloudburst Appliances. This session allowed people to get the right up to date with some of the key connectivity products in use by New York New Jersey MQ user group.
